On behalf of the organizing committee of the 19th SDEWES 2024 Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems scheduled for September 8 - 12, 2024 in Rome, it is our honour and pleasure to invite you to participate in a special technical session of invited papers within the Special Session Energy Transition and Decarbonisation in the District Heating Sector.
The 19th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environment Systems SDEWES 2024 will take place from 8th to 12th September 2024 in Rome.
See https://www.rome2024.sdewes.org/ for details.
The special session on Energy Transition and Decarbonisation in the District Heating Sector is related to specific challenges of the EU in the district heating sector. The objective of this Special Session is to discuss issues related to the integration of low-grade renewable energy and waste heat into high-temperature heating networks, and the planning of strategic investment programmes by district heating companies, which nowadays largely rely on the combustion of fossil fuels and biomass. The main focus is on approaches, resources, technologies and tools, which enable effective decarbonisation of the sector and a significant reduction in the share of fossil fuels and biomass in heat production. The session will also focus on establishing collaborative networks of stakeholders and local business ecosystems of district heating companies in the future energy market.
The Special Section is supported by the LIFE22-CET-SET_HEAT project (contract No. 101119793), which has received funding from the European Union under the LIFE-2022-CET-DH topic of the EU LIFE program.
In case you are interested in delivering a speech at the session, please submit a detailed abstract, including title, authors and their affiliations, emails and addresses, to the Special Session organizers by e-mail for pre-screening, by the end of January, 2024.
